I would like a overhead washer lifter that will easily lift the washer up and out of the washer floor drain pan, slide it out , and set it down for full access to the pan area or washer replacement ease. Some kind of small overhead crane on a rail. Having lockable wheels would be nice on the washer but the pan would block any rolling action.

My washer is presently in my kitchen and the dryer is on a back porch. My dream is to have both in a room of their own with room to iron and to move around!

Aging in place design is making sure that you will be able to function in your present home as you get older. We are planning to move our laundry area out of a closet in the main hall to a space carved out of a bedroom which will have a common wall with the bathroom. We are planning to replace our tub/shower unit with a full length shower so that wall is going to be opened up for plumbing changes any way. I can find plenty of ideas for adapting the bathroom, but almost nothing on adapting the laundry room. I have an HE front loading washer on a pedestal. The good thing about that is it makes loading and unloading easier.The bad part is that our shelves above are very hard to reach. I know I've seen kitchen cabinets with a rollout footstool. Ihope to find extra depth wall cabinets like the 24" deep cabinet I have over my refrigerator. I haven't seen any designs that incorporate ways to make space above appliances more accessible. It seems to me that i a real need. Any ideas?
