My Laundry Question

i have a top loader wash machine by whirpool. when i push the power button the lights all come on and all the settings still work i push the start button the lock button comes on but the machine wont start a cycle

Share a Little Background Info

the model is wtw5500xw1 whirlpool cabrio. The first problem noticed was a few days ago machine would go through whole cycle but items would still be wet. Now the machine will turn on but will not start a cycle at all. when i push start it sounds like it is trying but then stops and the door un locks.

Lessons Learned

  • i have unplugged machine for over a minute and plugged back in it sounds like the machine is trying to work it makes a noise like its going to start cylce then stops and the door un locks. I have tried changing to different cycles to see if one would work but same thing happens. the sensing light also stays on then when door un locks the sensing light blinks.then when i turn of power the lock light stays on blinking. I notice a small problem a few days ago that the when the cyle was finished the items where still soaking wet. the machine would still go through cycles but items would still be wet.

Mary Marlowe Leverette, About.com Laundry & Laundry Rooms, says:

It sounds like the lid lock switch is not engaging completely. Take a look and see if there is lint or something blocking it from clicking in place. Clean it with a cotton swab and a bit of rubbing alcohol. Put a bit of pressure on the lid at the switch and see if it engages. If that doesn't work, you may have a faulty timer.

You can find operating and repair manuals here.

Good luck!
