My Laundry Question

Why do my towels smell bad even after they have washed? I have used baking soda in the wash and they don't smell bad after they are washed but as soon as they get wet again they stink. Anything to get the smell out for good?

I have used baking soda in the wash and they don't smell bad after they are washed but as soon as they get wet again they stink. Anything to get the smell out for good? Do I need to just get new towels? They smell sour.

Lessons Learned

  • Baking soda in wash. always hang em up to dry.

Mary Marlowe Leverette, About.com Laundry & Laundry Rooms, says:

Your towels smell bad because of the soil and detergent left in the fabric. Begin by cleaning your washer (top load or front load) so that soil does not redeposit on your clothes and linens. Heavy fabrics like terry cloth trap a great deal of residue.

Always use hot water, don't overload your washer, don't use too much and add 1/2 cup of distilled white vinegar to the rinse water to help dissolve soapy residue.
