My Laundry Question

I have been getting mysterious spots on some of my wash.

Share a Little Background Info

First it was my towels. They would have spots on them that looked like the were being bleached, not white but a lighter color then they were. Like my brown towels would have rust looking color and my green towels would have a cream color. Then my DH orange shirt had a lighter orange spot and now my mauve top has a pink spot. So like they are being bleached but I do not use bleach. Please help.

Lessons Learned

  • I really dont know where to start because I dont have any idea what could be causing it.

Mary Marlowe Leverette, About.com Laundry & Laundry Rooms, says:

Since you don't use bleach, I'll run down a list of possibles. If none of this applies to your situation, send me some more information so I can help you pin it down!

  • If you are using a community laundry room, you may be getting leftover bleach from the previous washer user.
  • If you have a washer with automatic detergent and/or fabric softener dispensers, they may be partly clogged and distributing lumps of product onto your clothes. These can cause discoloration. Learn how to clean your washer.
  • If you pour detergent or fabric softener or stain removal directly onto your clothes, it can cause problems. Add the detergent first, fill the washer with water and then add the clothes.
  • Add 1 cup of white distilled vinegar to the rinse water to help remove any detergent/fabric softener build-up in your clothes.

Do the stains disappear when you wash them again? Or, are they permanent? Give these tips a try and good luck!
