My Laundry Question

I was wearing a bra which had gel inserts in it. One gel insert leaked onto my uniform and has badly stained the front. Could you tell me any way in which I could remove this stain. please.

Share a Little Background Info

A bra gel insert leaked. I was on duty at work when my gel insert from my bra leaked onto my clothing. When I got home at the end of my shift, I tried to wash the garment.

I have explained in the box below what and how I washed the garment.

Lessons Learned

  • Yes, I have washed the garment on an ordinary wash cycle and it did not remove it.
  • I put some washing up liquid on it as it felt greasy and thought it is a detergent it may help.
  • The garment was rewashed on a 60 degree wash.
  • The stain was not removed.

Fabric Content of Item (if appropriate)

50% Polyester and 50% cotton

Mary Marlowe Leverette, About.com Laundry & Laundry Rooms, says:

While I can't be sure what your bra inserts contained, I have a feeling it is silicone. If this should happen again, try to clean the stain as soon as possible. Begin by using a white cloth dipped in denatured (rubbing) alcohol. Blot at the stain from the outside edges toward the center. Do not scrub, just blot or rub gently. You don't want to push the silicone more deeply in the fibers.

Keep your white cloth saturated with rubbing alcohol and move to a clean area of the cloth each time you blot. Use a hair dryer on low heat to dry the spot. If the silicone stain remains, repeat the treatment.

Now that your uniform has been washed, I'm not sure if the alcohol will work. Always work from the back side and if any color transfers to the white cloth, stop the treatment.

Good Luck
