My Laundry Question
We added a PureWash to our laundry system. It's been about 3 months now. I have had trouble only with black clothing. It has patchy faded marks on my black panst and also two faded patches on my jeans.. My husband called PureWash and was advised we use Iron Out or Rit Rust Remover. Is this really the problem we are having? I am not convinced as it doesn't affect any light clothes at all. If you have any tip or suggestion we would appreciate it. Thank you.
Share a Little Background Info
We have had no other problems with the washer washing anything other than black clothing and my pair of jeans. One pair of jeans was unaffected.. The washer is about a year old, top-loader. It's a Whirlpool Cabrio Platinum with an H20 Low Water system.
- I have tried adding laundry detergent which I had not been using since we got the PureWash, but that didnt' help
Fabric Content of Item (if appropriate)
The black items affected were cotton or cotton blend with spandex, the jeans are cotton, polyester and spandex..
Mary Marlowe Leverette, About.com Laundry & Laundry Rooms, says:
I strongly doubt that the discoloration you see is rust. Rust removers are very caustic and your garments may come out worse after the treatment - especially the ones with spandex.
The fading cannot be reversed other than to re-dye the fabric. Do you ever use chlorine bleach near the washer? Or, have you left the dark clothes in the washer for extended periods of time?
I'm sorry that I can't help solve your problem. I would most certainly call PureWash again and ask, in their opinion, why this happened.
