Problem with Kenmore Elite HE4 Dryer

My Laundry Question

HELP! PLEASE!

My Kenmore Elite HE4 Dryer will not allow me to change any settings. It seems just STUCK.

Share a Little Background Info

While not being used, etc., I noticed the dryer is all lit up - tried pressing PAUSE twice - NOTHING CHANGED.(the settings seemed to be preset as if I was going to dry a load of laundry).

I opened the door, unplugged the DRYER - the settings would not turn OFF. I decided to dry a load of laundry but now the dryer would not turn on.

I finally got it to turn on after repeatedly pressing START. However the same settings that were lit up will NOT CHANGE.

These settings were not even ones that I chose.

I cannot find any "TROUBLESHOOTING" article that addresses this problem.

If you can help me, that would be great because I do not want to call in repair person for this problem.

Thanks in advance.

Lessons Learned

  • I tried pressing PAUSE twice
  • I tried changing the settings
  • I tried UNPLUGGING the dryer

Mary Marlowe Leverette, About.com Laundry & Laundry Rooms, says:

You need to perform a hard reset or a diagnostic test of your dryer: With the dryer stopped and the control turned off (if possible), unplug the dryer to completely disconnect electrical power. Leave it completely disconnected for 5 minutes. This will sometimes reset a control board that is stuck due to a power surge or glitch encountered through the electrical lines. Plug the dryer back in to see if the control will operate properly.

If the control does not reset and work normally after the hard reset, then you could have a stuck button on the control. Refer to your user guide to run the diagnostic test to determine which button is malfunctioning. If you need a user or repair manual, you can find it here and replacement parts here.

If the dryer will not go into this diagnostic test and the console will not respond to other cycle selections, it is likely that the user interface control board will need to be replaced.

Good luck!
