My Laundry Question

hi. thanks for taking my question. i notice the advice given relates to shirts but what about sweaters? i started to sweat alot when i was going through menopause and one of my off white sweaters that i like alot got the yellow armpit stains. the sweater is 70% acrylic, 27% nylon and 3% spandex. it is supposed to be hand wash cold water only. can you help me save my sweater?

p.s. i did not spill anything or such. the stain occurred just from one day at work, going through the hot flashes that occur with menopause. i have been put on hormones since. the hot flashes are less but not entirely eliminated. thanks.

Lessons Learned

  • i have done nothing yet. since my sweater is off white and not white, i am not sure if i would end up bleaching out the areas whiter that the rest of the sweater and end up ruining it.

Fabric Content of Item (if appropriate)

70% acrylic, 27% nylon, 3% spandex

Mary Marlowe Leverette, About.com Laundry & Laundry Rooms, says:

I'm sorry you've had such problems. You should be able to remove the stains by following these tips. As with light colored shirts, test the solutions in an inconspicuous spot - inside hem. Mixing a solution of oxygen-based bleach (OxiClean, Clorox 2, Country Save Bleach, Purex 2 Color Safe Bleach) and water following package directions and allowing your sweater to soak overnight will also help remove the yellow discoloration.

Good luck!
