My Laundry Question
How do I whiten nylon panties and bras?
Share a Little Background Info
The items have become a dingy grayish-looking color. They are all two or three years old and have religiously been washed in cold water with Woolite and have been hung up to dry. None have ever been put in the dryer, nor have I included anything else in the load.
- I've tried soaking the items in Oxyclean for 30 minutes with no success. Should I have soaked longer?

Mary Marlowe Leverette, About.com Laundry & Laundry Rooms, says:
You are on the right track! An oxygen-based bleach (OxiClean, Clorox 2, Country Save Bleach, Purex 2 Color Safe Bleach) is the safest choice for whitening nylon fabrics. Chlorine bleach will actually turn them yellow! The best way is to fill a sink or pail with warm water and the oxygen bleach and allow them to soak for 24 hours. Then wash as usual. Line drying the items in the sun will also help to whiten the fabric. The graying may be caused by the water in your area. If you have hard water you may need to take extra steps to keep clothing looking its best.
