My Laundry Question

How do I use Bluing in a front load washing machine?

Share a Little Background Info

I want to brighten my whites but once my front load washer is started I can't open the door so how do I add the bluing? I don't have any particular stain just yellow clothes and cotton's. My washer is clean because I clean it once a month per directions from manufacture. My machine is a Kenmore front load and I love it but how can I use the bluing?

Lessons Learned

  • Only bleach but that only removes stains.

Fabric Content of Item (if appropriate)

Cotton's mostly. Towels and wash clothes, dish rags and dish towels

Mary Marlowe Leverette, About.com Laundry & Laundry Rooms, says:

As you know, bluing should be diluted in water before adding to a wash load. If the dispensing drawers on your washer remain unlocked during the cycle, dilute the bluing in 1 to 2 quarts of water and add through the dispenser directly into the cycle after it has already filled with water.

If the drawers on your washer lock as the cycle starts, dilute the bluing as directed on the bottle and then put as much diluted bluing as will fit into the largest available drawer.

Good luck!
