How to Restore Color to Faded Clothes

Submit an Entry: Your Laundry Questions and Answers

By Katie Wilson

My Laundry Question

I placed my red shorts in with pink clothing and they have now turned pink. Is there any way I can dye them back to red? I've got a fancy dress party 1st September and I need red shorts so desperately need to dye them back to red not pink. Please help???

Share a Little Background Info

On the shorts it says wash cool. I washed them on normal quick wash probably hot and with pink clothes causing my shorts to turn pink instead of red. The inside pockets are still red but the actual shorts are pink. I want them back to comic relief type red and they are dark pink.

Fabric Content of Item (if appropriate)

99% cotton

Mary Marlowe Leverette, About.com Laundry & Laundry Rooms, says:

Your red shorts faded because of the hot water - not the pink companion clothing. The only way you can restore the color is to use a fabric dye. In the U.S. we have Rit Dye. The liquid formula is the easiest to use and will give you the best results.

Good luck!
