My Laundry Question
I recently bought a cashmere coat which cost nearly £800 and the sleeves needed to be taken up. The lady who did the repair work has left two/three finger marks on one of the sleeves. I do not know what these marks are and can only assume that her hands were not clean. The coat is camel. As it is new I do not want to have it dry cleaned. Can you please recommend something I might possibly try myself?
Many thanks.

Mary Marlowe Leverette, Laundry Guide, says:
Even though your coat is new, the safest route is to have it dry cleaned. This will remove the stains and prevent any spotting or change of color in the stained area.
However, if you want to try to clean it yourself, mix a weak solution of a gentle detergent (Like Woolite) or baby shampoo and water. Wet a clean white cloth with the solution - it must be white to prevent color transfer to your coat. Gently dab the stains, moving to a clean area of the cloth when the soil is transferred from the coat to the cloth.
Try not to soak the coat with too much solution or rub too hard. Get a clean white cloth and wet with clean water. Use the same technique to "rinse" the cleaned area. Allow the area to air dry - no forced heat.
Good luck!
