How to Remove Mildew Stains from Tablecloth

Submit an Entry: Your Laundry Questions and Answers

By J Saathoff

My Laundry Question

I have a heavy (commercial grade) white tablecloth. It must have been put away without being completely dry. It has some mildew stains on the ends of it. I don;t want to risk setting the stains so I haven't done anything with it yet. I would like to know what works to remove mildew stains. Hopefully, there is something that will work. This is a fairly new table cloth.

Share a Little Background Info

The table cloths were bought for use at our Church. they are used by various groups who are responsible for cleaning & returning them. When I took one out to use, I discovered the mildew like stains. Lessons Learned

  • Don't put them away until completely dry. I am assuming that is the problem.

Mary Marlowe Leverette, About.com Laundry & Laundry Rooms, says:

The mildew stains could have come from the tablecloth being stored while damp or it could be that the storage area is damp. Check carefully to be sure that there is no mildew or mold growth in the closet or cabinet. To remove the stains, follow these tips.

Good luck!
