My Laundry Question
Removal of mildew on laundry.
I have a 7 month old baby and I had removed her bed linen to wash. I had "waded" it up and threw it in the dirty laundry bin. When I got it out to wash there were mildew stains in one area on the sheet and mattress cover. I sprayed with "drift" stain remover and the mildew stain did not come out. I would rather not use bleach if possible. Your help would be greatly appreciated
Share a Little Background Info
After removal of bed linen on my baby's bed, I did not know there was a wet spot on them. I threw them in the dirty laundry and when I got them out to wash, maybe 2 days later, I saw the mildew on the sheet and matthess cover.
- Check laundry more closely for any wet areas. If so they need to be washed immediately.
Mary Marlowe Leverette, About.com Laundry & Laundry Rooms, says:
Try using a heavy duty detergent with enzymes to spot treat each mildew stain. Rub it in well and allow it work. Then wash, using regular detergent in hot water. If the stains remain (especially if you dried the sheet and mattress pad while stained) mix a solution of warm water and oxygen-based bleach (OxiClean, Clorox 2, Country Save Bleach, Purex 2 Color Safe Bleach ) and submerge the linens. Allow them to soak overnight and then wash as usual. You may need to repeat this process but the mildew stains will eventually come out.
