My Laundry Question
Desperate to get the white back to white...
Share a Little Background Info
I tossed in a dish towel soaked with coffee with a few dark items that had white patterns (a dark tshirt with white sleeves, black floral dress with white pattern) --- all of the white fabric has stained to a dark cream - almost tan. Help? I want to get the whites back to white
- I haven't dried the items - I tried re-washing, washing with stain guard, rewashing with bleach and detergent - nothing is working.

Mary Marlowe Leverette, About.com Laundry & Laundry Rooms, says:
As you've found, coffee can act as a dye and it has transferred to the white areas of your clothing. To whiten the white areas without harming the rest of the garment, you will need to soak your garments in a solution of oxygen-based bleach (OxiClean, Clorox 2, Country Save Bleach, Purex 2 Color Safe Bleach)and warm water. Follow the package directions as to how much product to use per gallon of water. Completely submerge your stained items and allow them to soak for 8 hours or overnight. Check the white areas, if they are back to normal, wash as usual. If they are still stained, repeat the process with a new oxygen bleach/water solution.
You will probably have more success if you soak each garment alone. Use small buckets or plastic bins for soaking.
