My Laundry Question

How do I clean cat urine out of a matress. And keep my cat from peeing there again? Please and thank you! :(

Share a Little Background Info

My cats have started showing agression towards each other after we moved in with a friend with a cat. My cats always got along. But fight with the other cat so we keep them separated from her, and now they fight with each other. I think when they fight they end up on the bed and my female pees. I am not positive. She might just be doing it randomly.?

Lessons Learned

  • I tried Odoban. I am going to call the vet in the morning to get them checked for uti's I guess. I read that on the site, maybe that is what started it?

Mary Marlowe Leverette, Laundry Guide, says:

Our About.com Guide to Cats, Franny Syufy, has an excellent article on cat urine accidents and why they may happen. I'm no expert on cats but Franny has some wonderful information on the site.

As she recommends, never use an ammonia-based cleaner to remove the stains or odor because the cat will perceive it as "the place" to urinate. Instead, dampen the soiled area. Sprinkle it with borax and work the borax into the mattress. Allow it to dry and then vacuum away the borax. The success of this method will depend on the freshness of the stain and how deep it penetrated. You may need to repeat several times.

Good luck!
