How to Move a Washer in a Small SUV

My Laundry Question

I just bought a used compact washer/dryer; each measures 24"w X 33" tall X 26" deep. If I move each in my SUV I would need to tip it on it's side. I know you shouldn't do that with a refrigerator, but can I safely move a washer by putting it on it's side ? (assuming all water is out)

Mary Marlowe Leverette, About.com Laundry & Laundry Rooms, says:

Washers and dryers are not incredibly heavy but they are hard to move because they are cumbersome. Obviously, the best way to transport is upright. But since that is impossible, the next best way is to lay them down on the front of the machine - especially the washer. That way if there is any moisture left in the machine, it will move to the front away from the electronics which are usually in the back. Be sure to secure any doors and follow these tips for washer and dryer disconnecting and moving.

Good luck!
