My Laundry Question
I have a dress that is 72% polyester, 24% rayon and 4% spandex. Washing instructions say hand wash in cold water, line dry and use lowest setting on iron as needed. Can I dye this another color? It is currently ivory in color and I would prefer a darker color like a brown. If I cannot dye this, do you have any suggestions on how I could change the color, i.e. soak in say strong coffee?
Share a Little Background Info
Looking for the perfect mother of the groom dress. Found it, but it is ivory in color. Would love to dye it so I can wear it for the wedding.
The dress also has a jacket that has a lace type fabric that I believe is made from the same material.
Lessons Learned
- Do not want to ruin the dress by using dye and completely ruining it.
Mary Marlowe Leverette, Laundry Guide, says:
You can dye this dress but you cannot dye it a really dark, solid color. The different fibers in the dress will absorb the commercial dye at different rates. Your dress will have more of a heather look rather than solid.
If you'd prefer to use natural dyes, I have a great reference on how to make every color of the rainbow.
Good luck!
