My Laundry Question
I am wondering if there is an environmentally responsible way to disinfect laundry for scabies. If not ecofriendly I am still interested in any response! Thank you so much.
Share a Little Background Info
We have a family member who has been treated for scabies and thought we had the problem licked, but it turns out they are way more tenacious than we had given them credit for. We now have 3 of us with the itchy little buggers and are in the process of disinfecting the whole house.
- Have only washed with regular Eco friendly detergent and had the house cleaned
Mary Marlowe Leverette, About.com Laundry & Laundry Rooms, says:
As you know, Scabies rash is caused by a tiny mite. The key to getting rid of the mites is to wash anything the infected person has touched in very hot water and then dry at high heat. Heat is extremely effective in killing the mites.
For items that cannot be washed in hot water, dry cleaning can be done. I would suggest that you tell the dry cleaner about the mites so the load can be handled properly.
