My Laundry Question
I just purchased 7 yards of Brocade fabric to make a Civil War Ball Gown.
Can I just through the material in the washer and wash on Cold temp. and dry on Low heat before I start making the dress?
Thanks, Kathy in Oregon

I am making my first Civil War gown and have purchased a beautiful brocade fabric. I want to wash the 7 yards of fabric before cutting and sewing the dress.
I need to know what the appropriate action to take is.

- I have not tried to wash the material yet.
Fabric Content of Item (if appropriate)
Fabric is a light gold brocade.

Even though I am a Southern girl, I'll do my best to help! Whether your fabric can be washed depends on the fiber content of the brocade. Brocade is actually a weaving term to describe the long "floating" threads that give the fabric its pattern and sheen.
I would recommend that the brocade be hand-washed in the bathtub or very large sink and dried flat. If you have a front-load washer, you can use a gentle cycle but I don't recommend washing in a top-loader with an agitator.
