Guide Review - Dropps Baby Laundry Detergent - Laundry Guide Review
Dropps Baby Laundry Detergent is a product of Cot'n Wash Inc. based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The laundry product line is an off-shoot from the company's research on the care of cotton fibers at their textile mill in the 1980s. By reducing the number of chemicals and removing enzymes in the detergent formula, they found that fibers looked better and lasted longer. The laundry detergent was introduced to the market in a 3X liquid formula, Cot'n Wash and then in the Dropps 6X concentrated pacs.
Dropps Baby Laundry Detergent offers concentrated eco-friendly detergent contained in biodegradable, phosphate-free, chlorine-free, NPE-free (nonylphenol ethoxylates)dissolving pack. The pacs are tossed in the drum of a washer (never the dispenser) and dissolve in the water. The detergent is suitable for both regular machines and high-efficiency (he) machines. For a regular load of laundry, one pac is recommended and two pacs for an extra-large load.
Recognized as a U.S. EPA Design for the Environment detergent, ingredients are listed as biodegradable plant-based surfactants (anionic and nonionic). For a complete list of ingedients, you must visit the website. However, there is no product ingredient listing for Dropps Baby. It only states that it is enzyme, scent and dye free. Here are the ingredients for the Scent and Dye Free formula.
Scent and Dye Free
The detergent comes in resealable bags of 20 or 42 pacs. I was unable to find information on whether the outer plastic bag is recyclable. The product is safe for septic tanks.
I tested Dropps Baby on both fresh stains like formula and diaper leaks and on stains that had been sitting for several days. The package directions recommends pretreating "nasty stains" with a separate product. I did not pretreat and found that on fresh stains, Dropps performed well. On older stains, pretreating is necessary - especially on anything that is dark in color like beets or infant medicine drops. The laundry came out clean, smelling fresh and very soft when dried.
My only concern is not being able to adjust the amount of detergent if you need to do a small load. You MUST keep your hands dry as you place the pacs in the washer or it begins to dissolve right away. And, they look so much like candy that you MUST keep them away from children and pets.
Dropps products are available nationwide in major merchandisers and online. Cost per regular load is around 30 cents.
