LOC and The Amway Story
In 1959, Amway introduced their first cleaning product, L.O.C. (Liquid Organic Cleaner). It was promoted as a multi-purpose cleaner that could be used to mop floors, clean windows and remove laundry stains. Many of the cleaning products are still based on that original formula. SA8 laundry detergent was the second product offered by Amway. Since that time, the line of household and laundry cleaners has grown and is now known as Legacy of Clean.
The Amway company is the world's largest direct selling company. Founded by Jay Van Andel and Rich DeVos, Amway now operates in more than eighty countries with more than 14,000 employees and three million distributors. The company is still controlled by the Van Andel and DeVos families and is based in Ada, Michigan.
SA8 laundry detergent was the second product offered by Amway. The S stands for "Surface", the A for "Active" and the 8 represents the eight ingredients in the original formula. By the 1970s, Amway had removed environmentally dangerous phosphates from its laundry detergents and in the 1980s the company began to concentrate their laundry formulas to reduce on packaging and the impact of transporting heavy materials. The 1990s brought the formulation of BIOQUEST, a crystals technology offers instant dissolvability so detergents can begin cleaning immediately. By 2002, the entire line of SA8 products had been reformulated for optimal cleaning results.
Amway's Legacy of Clean Laundry Products have been recognized by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as Design for the Environment products.

Laundry Guide Recommendations
I gave SA8+Bioquest a try on our regular family laundry and on test squares of muslin stained with mud, grass, oil and ketchup. I tested the product with in both cold water and hot water on white cottons. The clothes came out with plenty of scent and feeling soft and well-rinsed. However some stains remained.
For a load with normal soil and fresh stains, the detergent worked well. But on the the stained test squares, traces of the stains remained - especially the oily stain. I feel certain that this is because the product only contains the amylase enzyme and not lipases which breakdown fat-based stains. With a name like "bioquest", I expected a formula that contained more enzymes that break down different types of stains.
For lightly soiled clothes, this product did a nice job. For heavier stains, I would recommend a more heavy-duty detergent.
