Stetson is famous for their fur felt hats but they also make a line of straw hats that are perfect for hot summer sun. Straw hats, of any brand, are easy to clean and will last for many seasons if cared for properly.
To remove dust, wipe with a clean, damp cloth. Use a white cloth so that there can be no dye transfer. If your hat gets wet, shake off water and turn down the leather sweatband to use as a "hat stand". Allow your hat to dry away from direct sunlight or high heat sitting upright on the sweatband. Do not dry on a flat surface because the brim will become misshapen.
To prevent perspiration, make-up or lotions and hair products from seeping into the straw, turn the sweatband down so it can dry between wearings. If you have staining, sprinkle with cornstarch or talcum powder to absorb the moisture. Allow to sit for several hours and then brush away. Do not spray with liquid cleaners.
For stains around the sweatband, use 1/2 teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide and 1/2 teaspoon of warm water on light colored straw. For dark straw, use 1/2 teaspoon of ammonia and 1/4 cup warm water. Use a soft-bristled brush - an old toothbrush - and work on a small area - one to two inches - at a time. Clean and then blot with a white towel dampened with water. Allow the area to dry completely before wearing again.
Store your hat in a hat box upside down to prevent misshaping the brim and to keep off dust.
