Smelly Washer Cleaner, once called Purewasher, was developed to remove odor from front loading and top loading washers. The odor is caused by a build-up of detergents and fabric softeners that traps the bacteria and grime from your laundry. One tablespoon of Smelly Washer is added to an empty washer during a hot water cycle to dissolve that build-up and flush away the odor causing problem.

Available online, the product is made in the United States. The ingredients are not listed on the packaging and are only listed as "100% all natural citrus based ingredients" and septic tank safe on their website. The company does offer a money-back guarantee and tips on how to use the product.

I must admit that I did not have an odor problem with my washer, but I did run a cleaning cycle using the product. Smelly Washer Cleaner had no fragrance as it was added to the hot water. After the cycle, my washer tub did look a bit brighter and there was no odor.

Each bottle contains 24 treatments - each costing around 75 cents. Distilled white vinegar can also be used to clean a washer by adding 1 cup to a hot water cycle.
