A parent's sense of smell is a powerful tool in bringing up kids. It doesn't take long until you can discern between a true dirty diaper and a false alarm. Or, the faint whiff of chocolate when little voices deny finding the box of candy. And, of course, you want your child to smell sweet and fresh and clean. Purex Crystals has tapped into that notion and offers Purex Crystals for Baby.
Purex Crystals for Baby
Purex introduced Purex Crystals in 2011 as an in-wash laundry scent enhancer. It comes in three scents: Fresh Spring Waters, Lavender Blossoms and Tropical Splash.
New for 2013 is Purex Crystals for Baby, a baby-inspired in-wash fragrance. The formula is dye-free and contains 87 percent natural ingredients.
The ingredients of Purex Crystals for Baby are:
- Sodium Chloride
- PEG Distearate
- Sodium Silicate
The product comes in a 28 ounce size and scents 32 loads. It is safe to use in both regular and high-efficiency washers. The crystals can be used with any detergent and it is safe to use fabric softener as well. The bottle is recyclable.
The Crystals are added directly to the laundry washer tub before clothes are added. Do not use an automatic dispenser because the crystals will not have time to dissolve completely if dispensed later in the wash cycle.
A measuring cap is included to help you determine how much additional fragrance you would like to add. Purex suggests you use Purex Crystals for Baby with Purex Laundry Detergents for Baby since the scents are similar.

Purex products including liquid laundry detergent, powder laundry detergent, Purex 3-in-1 laundry sheets, liquid fabric softeners, dryer sheets, and laundry enhancers Magic Release and color safe bleach are manufactured by Dial Corporation of Henkel North America. Other Henkel products are Zout, 20 Mule Team Borax and Sta-Flo Starch.
Henkel is an international company that produces adhesives, cleaning products and personal care products around the world. Many familiar United States Brands - Loctite, Soft Scrub, Dial Soap, Right Guard, Soft 'n Dri - are products of Henkel.
The name Purex was coined in 1923 for a chlorine bleach developed by Lionel and Ray Precourt. By 1946, the Purex company added their first powdered laundry detergent, Trend. In 1975 liquid laundry detergents hit the shelves and the Purex brand has continued to grow and offer new products. Their 3-in-1 Laundry Sheets received a 2010 Edison Award for Best New Household Product.
Laundry Guide Recommendations
If you love scent, especially baby powder florals, then you'll love Purex Crystals for Baby. I'm personally don't like a lot of perfume in my laundry but this one, if used sparingly, is not overwhelming. I added just a bit (less than the smallest amount suggested) of Purex Crystals for Baby to a load of guest room bed sheets and they did come out smelling fresh and sweet. When my overnight guests arrived about a week later, they noticed the scent as well.
Since Purex Crystals does not contain any fabric softening ingredients it is safe to use on children's sleepwear and will not cause towels to become less absorbent. Since it does contain fragrances, if you have chemical sensitivities or your child does this should be used with caution.
However, if you want more, more, more fragrance - and long lasting fragrance - for your laundry, Purex Crystals for Baby should be added to your laundry shelf.
