Is your laundry room overrun with clutter? Learn how to declutter and organize to make your laundry room more efficient and your laundry routine easier.

Declutter - Out with the Trash!

Start by getting rid of anything that should not be in the laundry room. Why are there library books, garden tools and basketballs in here? Next, throw away or recycle any broken hangers, empty detergent containers and broken hampers.

Sort Everthing Out

Make an investment in a three-bin hamper or three separate hampers for whites, colors and hand washables. If you don't have room for these to remain out all of the time, get collapsible ones that can be put away. You'll also need a drying rack or rod or pull out clothesline for items that cannot go into the dryer.

Consolidate Laundry Products

How many laundry products do you really need? Select a detergent that works well for all fabrics. Consider using baking soda or vinegar to boost performance and soften clothes and eliminate fabric softeners and dryer sheets.

A Place For Everything

If you don't have cabinets near the washer, install a shelf or a rolling cart between the washer and dryer. Find inexpensive containers like boxes or baskets for small items like clothespins, scissors and scrub brushes. Keep a couple of baskets for items that surface as you empty pockets. Your family will know where to look if they are missing something. Keep one for those single socks or mittens until the mate appears. Empty the baskets on a regular schedule and never look back!
