College Laundry Goes Green: Free Drying Racks

The University of Missouri's environmental protection program, Sustain Mizzou, is offering students an alternative to laundry room dryers by providing free drying racks that can be borrowed in the dorms. Clothes dryers consume a significant amount of energy - 10 to 15 percent of all appliance energy. The drying racks not only save energy costs, they offer an alternative to harshly high heat in most commercial dryers. As students embrace the idea of drying racks, more will be added around campus.
