Boil Water Advisory

Friday July 3, 2009

Boil water advisories are issued somewhere every day due to a broken water line or hydrant flushing. Citizens are warned to boil the water before consuming to prevent illness. There should also be a warning to avoid doing laundry during the advisory.

While certainly not as serious as water-borne illness, the water carries bacteria, minerals and sediment that can stain your laundry. You may end up with rust spots or dingy clothes that will be hard to return to their original state.

If laundry can't be avoided until the water system returns to normal, follow the laundry guidelines for hard or cloudy water to protect your clothing investment.

What a good reminder. That season is on us of flushing lines and summer disasters!

Thanks for the reminder!

You’re most welcome! I grew up on a farm with a well. We had the same problem with cloudy water if Daddy had to work on the pump. That was one of the few times we had “store-bought” water!
